Description

One fateful event stands out in the region's history: the devastating Rossberg landslide on 2 September 1806. Within a few minutes, an entire valley was covered with rocks and mud, sometimes dozens of meters high, and literally reshaped. The village of Goldau was wiped out. 457 people lost their lives in this disaster.

On May 28, 2025, the village of Blatten in the canton of Valais suffered a similar fate: the village was hit by a devastating rockslide. In Goldau, where the traces of the disaster are still present today, the solidarity with the affected population of Blatten is palpable.
