2nd Chamber Concert – Classics & Contrasts

Description

Three first-class trios are at the center of the 2nd Chamber Concert. Together with the Swiss pianist Benjamin Engeli, musicians of the argovia philharmonic will perform Béla Bartók's «Contrasts» for violin, clarinet, and piano. The inspiration came from old Hungarian peasant folk songs, resulting in three dance-like movements. Johannes Brahms’ Trio for clarinet, cello, and piano in A minor op. 114 is considered a prototype of Brahms's late work. The music appears bathed in a gentle light, characterized by serenity and silence, while all themes seem like a gentle farewell to the world. In stark contrast stands Beethoven's Trio for violin, cello, and piano in B-flat major op. 11 «Gassenhauer-Trio», whose name refers to a then-popular opera melody heard in the third movement. The work radiates lively cheerfulness and a good-humored mood, making it very accessible music. Program:
