Ace Ross, based in Lausanne, works on jazz that listens to the classics but does not get stuck in them. In the studio, he constructs pieces where modern textures meet jazz forms. On stage, he plays with a band that knows how to navigate between written and improvised, without forcing or overdoing it. The musicians are solid, each bringing their own color, and together they maintain a dynamic that works just as well in a small club as on a big stage. The audience? Sometimes familiar with the genre, sometimes curious, everyone finds their place. If you listen to Kneebody, Butcher Brown, or Javier Santiago, you'll see what's in store: groove, finesse, and a bit of unpredictability. In 2025, the project won the first prize of the ZKB Jazz Prize, not bad for a sound that doesn't aim to please everyone.
